Hi Everyone,
Hope your summer is going great! Time is flying by and campaign season is fixing to swing into high gear and there are a lot of events and opportunities coming up in the near future. Here are several things I want to make you aware of.(in no particular order)
Meeting schedule; our next couple business meetings are scheduled for August 25 and October 18. Both at Bedford City Council chambers, both at 7:00 pm. Official calls will be sent in advance of both as usual.
Website; Our new website is up and running! The web address is www.bedfordrepublicans.com. Please check it out. Thanks to Erik Kritter for putting it up for us and to Cliff Russell for his help with content management. The site has more capability than we are currently able to utilize and we could use more help managing it and keeping information on the site up to date. Please let me know if you have an interest in participating. We will use the site to help publicize events and for unit email as well as a resource to connect with interested people in the community. Elected officials and candidates are welcome to submit a short bio/informational sketch with photo for featuring on the website.
Mass Meeting; We will nominate our candidates for county offices in our mass meeting on July 28. The meeting is at Liberty High School, doors will be locked and meeting will start at 7:00 pm. Please plan on participating and invite your friends and neighbors who subscribe to the principles of the Republican party. The offices to be nominated at this meeting are; Sheriff, Treasurer, Commonwealth Attorney, Commisioner of Revenue, Bedford City Council(special election, at-large seat), County Board of Supervisors, districts 1,5,6 and 7. At present we have one candidate for the offices of Sheriff, Treasurer, Board of Supervisors in districts 1 and 5. We have at least two in the race for Supervisor in district 7, and no candidates have filed todate for the offices of Commonwealth Attorney, Commissioner of Revenue, City Council or Supervisor in district 6. (this applies only to the nomination contest to be settled at the mass meeting. There are independent candidates running for some of these offices) Candidates wishing to seek our nomination on July 28 have until the 21st to file so there may be other candidates entering some of these races in the coming days.
Unit Social; Our next unit social event is set for August 19. Mark your calendars and plan to join us, more details to follow.
Unit fundraiser; Our annual unit fundraiser is set for September 8. Our Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, is scheduled to be with us to headline the event. Our fundraising subcommittee is actively working on the arrangements and we will communicate time, location, ticket information, etc. to you as soon as possible.
We will have plenty of opportunities for volunteering again this year as we work with our local and state candidates throughout the summer and fall. I’ll be in touch with information as to what we need help with over the coming days. Thanks for your support of our unit and our candidates last year, here’s hoping for similar success this year and next! God Bless, Nate Boyer.
