Robert Hurt – A New Year

Robert Hurt – A New Year

First and foremost, I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. As we celebrate this season, I want to send a special thank you to those in the military here at home and abroad who are making great sacrifices to keep our nation safe.

As the new Congress prepares to be sworn in on January 5th, I want to make sure that you are kept up to date on everything that has been going on during this busy transition time.

Constituent services has been and will continue to be my top priority in Congress. I have pledged to listen to the people I represent and to vote with their best interest in mind, which is why I urge you to contact my office with your thoughts, concerns, or opinions about the important issues that are facing our nation when our office opens on January 5th. Our office phone number will be (202) 225-4711 and our Washington, D.C. office location will be Longworth House Office Building #1516.

Remaining committed to the principles of limited government, lower taxes, and reining in out of control government spending, I was proud to vote for and support changes to the GOP Conference Rules that were adopted by the House Republican Conference for the 112th Congress. Some of those measures include:

  • Spending: An earmark ban and a “cut-as-you-go” spending reform.
  • Reforming Government: Prohibiting commemorative resolutions and requiring that internal Republican Conference rules and resolutions are made available online for the people of the 5th District and all Americans to read and review.

Having been recommended by appointment to the Committee on Financial Services for the 112th Congress, I look forward to representing the interests of Central and Southside Virginians on the Committee. The Committee will be addressing issues that will impact tax payers, businesses, financial institutions, and job creation in the 5th District. I am committed to supporting policies that will increase access to capital for small business and individuals, reduce the regulatory burden on Main Street banks, protect taxpayers by reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and lead to aggressive oversight of the Regulatory Reform bill.

There is a lot of work to be done, and I am eager to hit the ground running in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support,

Robert Hurt
