Chatham, VA – President Obama has endorsed a plan to build a mosque at the site of the September 11th terrorist attack.
Nearly 70% of Americans oppose this effort (see here).
Republican Congressional Candidate in Virginia’s Fifth District, Robert Hurt, released the following statement:
“Our president’s decision to endorse the building of a mosque so close to the site of a national tragedy that millions of Americans will remember for their entire lives is deeply troubling.
This is another example that the White House and folks in Washington are totally out-of-touch with the people of America.
Congressman Perriello needs to stand up to our president and tell him that he should be focused on creating jobs and cutting the out-of-control spending in Washington instead of gratuitously offending millions of Americans with his insensitive comments.
So I ask, where does our Congressman stand on this important issue?”

So does Robert Hurt not believe in private property rights? It seems to me that regardless of your feelings on the issue, it’s private property and they can build whatever they want there. There’s a mosque at the Pentagon too! This seems like such a stupid non-issue to me.
That is what this release says. The President shouldn’t have made this a national issue, because it is a New York issue.
Chris, whether the Muslim mosque is a non-issue or not, NOW Pelosi wants to investigate all those that oppose its construction at ground zero. (i saw this quoted from Washington Times over at HotAir.com)
Perriello voted for Pelosi as Speaker. Sometimes I think that may have been his worst vote among so many horrible ones.
Robert Hurt should be worried about something a little closer to home.Like jobs in the 5th district.Perriello claims he has worked so hard for jobs when the fact is since he took office unemployment has went up in the 5th district.
