This is funny if it wasn’t so sad. The DCCCP is complaining about Hurt’s tax raising record over Perriello’s?

Much of the election in Virginia’s 5th district has focused on state Senator Robert Hurt’s record of breaking his pledge and supporting a tax increase in 2004. For that vote, national anti-tax activists targeted Hurt and named him to a “Least Wanted” list. [Roll Call, 12/17/10]
But now Hurt says, “That’s one vote out of 3,000.” [The Hook, 5/20/10]
False!
The truth, Hurt has voted to authorize 28 different taxes and fees PLUS his ‘one vote’ for a $1.4 billion tax increase… a combined total of over $2 billion. Among others, Hurt voted to increase abusive driver fees, diesel gasoline taxes, registration taxes and hunting license fees. He even authorized raising the cost of buying and selling a home. “It’s time for Robert Hurt to stop behaving like a career politician and start telling the truth about his tax record,” said Jesse Ferguson, Southern Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Throughout his campaign he’s been hiding from tough questions and now he’s just making stuff up, pretending that there was only one time he broke his word and voted to raise taxes. If Hurt was telling the truth, he wouldn’t say it was just 1 vote but he would admit that it was nearly 30 different taxes and fees. The truth is that Hurt can’t be trusted to keep his pledge not to raise taxes or his word on anything else. Rather than run from his record, Hurt should start standing up and explaining his record of support tax increases on everything from driving a car to filling up a gas tank to going hunting with your kids. Hurt might have signed a pledge to not raise taxes but his record makes it clear that the pledge isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.”
So,
I wonder why they chose to send out a press release on June 4th, instead of, say, June 9th? Could the DCCC be trying to influence primary voters?
or getting a head start on attacking the one they think will win.
True. The way I read it, considering the date and in particular the reference to HB 3202, it looks like the press release is more targeted toward disenchanted Republicans- voters they know won’t vote for Tom Perriello, but they are counting on to stay home and not vote at all (or vote third party).
As you mention in the beginning, there’s a big difference between increasing the fee paid by someone convicted of a traffic offense, and voting for the several hundred billion in new taxes included in the healthcare bill.
The press release mentions some thirty fees, but all together only 3 bills. The way I see it, 4 total votes out of 3,000 is not too shabby.
Post on this topic at TertiumQuids too. I think they are trying to suppress Hurt turnout. Cause it aint like the Dems aren’t spending us into the d*mn poorhouse–Obamacare????
Well Kelley come Tuesday we will find out if we will have Perriello another two years or not.
Will, some of us will work hard until November to beat Perriello.
Kelley as you know im a McPadden supporter but if ANY of the other candidates win the primary I will work hard for them EXCEPT Hurt if he wins I will be in the Clark camp or just not vote at all.Hurt is not a true conservative and im damn tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.
Anyone who looks at Hurt’s record as a whole can see that he supports gun rights, is pro-life, and has voted against taxes way more than 4 times. Unless you are willing to do whatever you have to do to keep liberals like Perriello out of Congress (even if the Republican nominee is not quite as Conservative as Ron Paul), don’t call yourself a patriot.
Here is a link to the Al Gore like move, Radio stations have tight budgets and no room for error. The big “could be a violation” could is a costly and threatening word. On the other hand Robert Hurt is defending Slick Willy, Bill Clinton, hmmm? Check out the full article:

I am still teetering b/t two candidates. Neither one is Robert Hurt. I love the spin that has been wound to try and make everyone FEEL GOOD about voting for Hurt, but eventually the spin unravels and in this case, you are left with empty promises/pledges. The same excuses he uses now to explain his expansion of government votes, are the same ones he will if/when he gets to DC.
