Perriello’s outside donors
When he announced that he raised $600,000 in the first fund raising quarter of 2010, Perriello made a big deal of getting donations from all 22 localities in his district. That may be true, but a closer look at where his donations came from tells a rather revealing story about Perriello’s support.
Perriello’s announcement didn’t reveal that forty percent of his campaign contributions come from outside Virginia . And of his in-state donations, 66% come from one area: Charlottesville . Here are the top metro areas for Perriello’s donors:
Charlottesville $251,158
DC area 86,825
New York 77,503
Roanoke 18,947
Tidewater area 15,966
Why is so much money is pouring in to Perriello from these areas? Maybe it is because he represents the interests of left-wing donors from places like DC, New York , and Tidewater more than he does the people Lynchburg , Bedford , Danville , and the rest of the Fifth District outside of liberal Charlottesville . His donors like that he votes with Nancy Pelosi over 90% of the time. We don’t. Let’s let him know how much we don’t like it by voting him out of office in November.

Perriello is at 40% out of state money followed by Verga with 35% and Hurt with 15%. It is nice to see where they money comes from.
Whether you like it or not, Charlottesville is in the 5th District, and they are Perriello’s constituents too. So you can’t discount them.
Focus on the out-of-district/out-of-state money.
I think this is interesting. Its perfectly ok to get out of state support for a campaign, but were talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars, not a check from grandma for $75.00.
When you get nearly half your campaign funding from people who do not live in your district, it shows something about who you are.. an outsider
this is a statistic that will impact the Republican nominee, too. Our nominee will have to raise money outside of the district in order to compete with Perriello’s big bucks. Sad fact of national politics.
Kelley only you could turn this into a good thing for Hurt.I believe these candidates should ONLY take instate money but that won’t happen without some real campaign reform.
Will.. if we passed a law that make outside money illegal, they would just find smart ways to make it inside money.
Aaron you are most likely right but doesn’t it just make you sick.
I will say that I want Perriello gone too but if you were to be fair and balanced on this issue you would show that this is the norm for any high profile seats that will be heavily contested. When the Tea Party or Republican candidate gets going be fair and show where their money comes from as well.
I would love to see the Tea party succeed in giving our government back to the people. There is a serious need to clean house in both major political parties and start anew. However, replacing them with the same type professional politicians we now have is not the answer. If the Tea Party is going to hold itself out in front of the American people … See Moreas holding the moral high ground and truly representing the people, it cannot simply be a party of rhetoric and the same old throwing of stones while they themselves commit the same crimes against the citizens the current incumbents do. Your snarky remark tells me that you are most likely one of the people that simply likes to complain about what others are doing all while turning a blind eye to the wrong your ilk commits on a daily basis. If you are going to call out the Democrats for taking outside money to finance their local campaign you better make darn sure your hands are clean. Otherwise it makes you no better and perhaps worse than the people you wish to remove from office. You should reconsider your position on posting where the Republican Party and Tea Party candidates money comes from. If you are not willing to do that you are not worthy enough of a voice to represent me as a Tea Party spokesperson.
I want my government back. I want a government Of the People, By the People, and For the People. I do not want to simply change the players that end up playing by the same rules.
When Tom Perriello starts to do the will of the people we can be concerned with being fair.
Perriello will have access to 5 BILLION dollars if he needs it from Soros and the SEIU. I think “fairness” is not something we need be too concerned about. When the lefty blogs paint us as right wing extremist racists are they being fair?
In the context of this discussion I would defiine fair as giving an equal comparison. You did nothing different than what has become the norm today. You pointed out something that most people would not find favorable for the opposition but failed to show how our side is any better.
As for what I call “the race baiters” I personally find them easily defended against and easily beaten in almost any argument. Playing the “racist” card in almost every instance only waters down the few times is actually takes place. The African American people have been given more money, given more assistance, and more advantages than any other group of people in this country. It is certainly not “fair” to give contractors preference because they are minority owned as is the case with most government projects. It is not fair to give any people preference to college admissions because they are not white in the attempt to provide “racial diversity” for the students. It is not fair to have a college fund that is race based as the United Negro College Fund is no matter what race it is. I cannot even fathom the public outcry if there was a National Association for the Advancement of White People or a Congressional White Caucus.
Yes, there certainly is racism in this country and it is time the people stood up and said enough is enough. All race based organizations, fund raisers, and programs should be disolved. They are not helping to cure a problem that exists, they are the problem.
