Perriello votes NO to DEBT limit increase

In a surprise to the many residents of the fifth district Congressman Tom Perriello voted “nay” to a bill that will increase the nations debt limit to 14.3 TRILLION dollars.

We almost always disagree with Tom Perriello on just about every issue. This is on instance where we agree with him. He’s got to earn that Blue Dog status somehow. If only Webb and Warner would have voted the same. Unfortunately they didn’t seem to mind piling more debt onto the backs of our children for the next 100 years.

Fox News Blog Reports:

The House of Representatives Thursday voted to raise the debt limit by $1.9 trillion. That vote raises the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion, a new high for the amount of debt the U.S. has ever carried.

As recently as 2001, the U.S. debt was only at $5.7 trillion. But exploded throughout the past decade after September 11 amid record spending by the Bush and Obama Administrations.

If Congress doesn’t hike the debt ceiling, the U.S. would be unable make good on Social Security and Medicare payments.

The Senate approved the debt limit increase in mid-January on a 60-40 party-line vote.

The House vote was a close one, 217-212. All Republicans and more than 30 Democrats voted against raising the debt ceiling.

Moderate and fiscally-conscious Democrats were suspect of voting to hike the debt.

If only we had more statesmen in the halls of congress.

We are going to see much more of this. Pelosi must have had enough votes to give her little Tommy some cover.

yep, he got cover on this one. but it was his healthcare vote that sealed his fate. now if only the Republicans could stop fussing with each other & move forward to whip Perriello in November.

Yet another bailout. This article is spot on, so when will it end. So is the current leadership from the collective world governments is “Hey if we all print money together than none of us can get into trouble!”

I hope the 5th realizes how well their interests and the interests of this Nation are epresented by Tom Periello. If we could find more smart decent people to run this county, we would be so much better off.

Virgil Goode set the 5th back so bad, they were a joke. Tom has done them proud. He’s putting people back to work and building jobs far into the future. It would be a terrible mistake to let him get away.

Ms Hewitt: you are exactly right. Perriello brought a bike trail to Martinsville where there is over 20% unemployment. All Martinsville government contractors, minority contractors, union contractors who have been approved by the Federal government can build the $50,000 (or thereabouts) bike trail.

Perriello solved the unemployment problem in Martinsville. ///s

The non-snarky answer is this: Perriello voted for job-killing legislation every chance he got. Though he voted for cap ‘n trade, it hasn’t passed the Senate (yet). That single legislation would destroy even more jobs in the 5th & the entire country. His ties to the unions indicates how he would vote on card check–another job killer in Virginia.

government interference & intrusion kills entrepreneurship & job creation.

Yeah Anne Hewitt Perriello is really doing a great job since he took office and voted for the jobless stimulus package the unemployment rate has went up in the 5th district.Im sure you will not see this in any of Perriello’s tv ads but if I was Robert Hurt I would make a ad about it today.
